Atlanta Pride 2018

Oh Sweet Serendipity! I don’t know if was the univers’s gift to me, personally making up for almost wiping out my hometown of Quincy, FL (a small town right outside of Tallahassee) just a few days prior but I felt like the luckiest girl in the world when Atlanta Pride fell right smack dab on top of AfroPunk Weekend. Outside of the insanely high Uber fairs and overpriced covers for clubs, it was a two-for-one I will not forget!

PARADE!!!!!

Invited by my bestie, Brica, I had the opportunity to join the parade this year! I was so excited that I even went and bought sneakers. Now yall know how I am with my shoewear. That is soooooo out of character for me but I wanted to be comfortable and able to smile for the two and a half mile walk that concluded in Piedmont Park.

Arriving at the crack of dawn, literally 6 am, we were all a little chilly as the group began to come together. As one of Mailchimp’s new photographers, my best friend got to work capturing all the set up efforts and I got to work capturing her…. uh, capturing things…? There should be a term for people taking photos of people taking photos. I just don’t know it.

SAndwiched between Delta Airline’s Pride in Flight float and Coca Cola, more than 300 Mailchimp employees, friends and family crowded the street as the 11th organization in line. It was such an exciting thing to see all the people who had gathered. Now look. Ive been to pride parades but i have NEVER seen on so big. I feel like every company I had ever heard of had come out to show support. One of my favorite things about Pride is perhaps the augmentations corporations make to their logos for the festivities. A woman passed me with about seven rainbowed blocks bridged together and no matter how vibrant, it still read Bank of America to me. lol
